Troy resident named to Oakland mental health board

AUBURN HILLS -- Troy resident Adam Fuhrman, a counselor and peer mentor at Macomb-Oakland Regional Center, was appointed to the Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority’s Board of Directors, effective immediately.

Fuhrman’s duties include developing and coordinating peer mentor programs for those served by MORC, Inc. He also is a certified Supports Intensity Scale interviewer and trainer, and a trainer for the Oakland County Peer Mentor Training Program.

Fuhrman earned Bachelor and Master degrees from Oakland University.

He has volunteered his counseling expertise at Faith Lutheran Church in Troy. As a volunteer, he facilitates group counseling using GriefShare curriculum, co-facilitates group counseling using Divorce Care for Kids curriculum, and uses empathetic listening to encourage member participation.

In the past, Fuhrman, who was born with cerebral palsy and is a wheelchair user, has served as an Alternate Member of the Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities in Troy and was a member of Golden Key International Honour Society.
