Bauer, of Ferndale, is a parent of a daughter with a
developmental disability. She served as executive director of Michigan
Protection and Advocacy Service, Inc., for 20 years. Bauer also is the
recipient of the 2012 Distinguished Service Award by the National Association
of State Boards of Education.
Bauer also is on the outreach committee for the Michigan
Department of Community Health and is a current member of the Board of
Directors for both MORC and its independent fundraising entity, The Futures
Foundation.
The event is sponsored by the Association for the
Macomb-Oakland Regional Center, a nonprofit started more than three decades ago
by parents of children with disabilities to help get them services they need.
