Nonprofit organizations are responsible for 10
percent of the jobs held in Michigan, according to a report from Public Sector
Consultants (released Fri., 5.30). The
analysis showed the nonprofit sector pays nearly $5 billion in wages every
three months and employs 438,000 people. Approximately half those jobs are held
in the health services field. The study was sponsored by the Council of
Michigan Foundations and the Michigan Nonprofit Association. “In strict
economic terms, (nonprofits) invest billions, pay billions, and employ
thousands, but their service roles are far more varied and important,” said
Public Sector Consultants CEO Jeff Williams.
